Thor: Ragnarok trailer: see Thor come face to face with the Hulk - and get his hammer destroyed

Marvelhas released the first teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, and it looks absolutely fantastic:  packed with colour and action, and not short on humour either (which isn't all that surprising, given that it's directed by Taika Waititi, who also made horror comedy What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople).
In the forthcoming film, the titular god from outer space, played by Chris Hemsworth, is captured, and finds himself forced to engage in gladiator-style battles on the semi-lawless planet of Sakaar, where he's pitted against fellow Avenger Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

The new trailer shows the moment the two superheroes first come face to face in the battle ring. Initially, Thor is relieved.

"Yes!" he joyously exclaims, to the bafflement of Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster, who is overlooking the action alongside Thor's villainous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
"We know each other! He's a friend from work!"

The character's jubilation soon turns to dismay, however, after he realises that, while in "Hulk" mode, Banner isn't exactly savouring their reunion....or, indeed, even recognising his old buddy.
Elsewhere, the trailer (which, for an ostensible teaser, seems pretty rich with plot detail) gives a closer look at Cate Blanchett's villain Hela, goddess of Death.

Worryingly, the super-powerful antagonist not only manages to take Thor's mighty hammer Mjölnir from him (traditionally speaking, only Thor is able to wield it), but also appears to completely destroy it, blasting it apart.
As character introductions go, it was a pretty effective one.
Finally, the new footage also answers a burning question raised by fans last month, after new images of Hemsworth in the role were released.
Thor aficionados the world over were dismayed to see that the character had apparently abandoned his traditional long locks - and speculated that he may have been shorn by his captors.
It now looks as if this was correct: in early scenes in the trailer the character is sporting the tresses, but is without them in the gladiatorial ring.

"[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers,” Hemsworth previously told Entertainment Weekly. “No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”
Thor: Ragnarok is released in the UK on October 27 this year.
