New footage from Zack Snyder's superhero mash-up premiered during the fall finale of Gotham
Not to be outdone by Marvel's Captain America going toe to toe with Iron Man in the Civil War trailer, DC and Warner Bros have hit back with a new teaser for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
First shown on US TV during the fall finale of Gotham, this is the first fresh footage from the film since San Diego Comic-Con in July. At Comic-Con, Dawn of Justice producer Charles Roven promised that fans would get a further glimpse of the film “before the end of the year”, and this clip - showing Superman unmasking a Batman seemingly held captive by Kal-El worshippers - is a precursor to the full trailer due to be shown during Jimmy Kimmel's show on December 2.
Two trailers had already been released setting up the conflict between Bruce Wayne, played by Ben Affleck, and Henry Cavill’s Kal-El. The rivalry emerges in the aftermath of the destructive Battle of Metropolis in 2013’s Man of Steel.
The film will also feature Jason Momoa’s debut appearance as Aquaman. Momoa, who is most famous for playing Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, will star in his own feature film, Aquaman, in 2018. He will also appear as Aquaman in The Justice League Part One – which will be released in 2017.
Wonder Woman, played by Israeli actress Gal Gadot, will also make an appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before starring in a standalone adventure rumoured to be set during the Second World War.
Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg will play arch-villain Lex Luthor in the series. It is also rumoured that Ezra Miller may make an appearance as the Flash.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due to be released in March 2016.
