Star Wars fans around the world are to be treated to a new trailer and advance ticket sales, two months before the hotly anticipated film hits cinemas.
A new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will air during half-time at the New York Giants versus Philadelphia Eagles American football game in Philadelphia on Monday evening, Lucasfilm has announced.
A series of clips have already been broadcast in America in order to promote the launch of the trailer. Though short, these provide further information on certain characters, including Daisy Ridley's Rey, Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron, John Boyega's Finn and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company. A number of tickets will go on sale after the trailer has played, the Associated Press reported.
Star Wars confirmed in a blog post on Sunday that tickets "for the highly anticipated film will also go on sale tomorrow for showings in theatres across the globe".
UK cinema chains announced the surprise news on Twitter, suggesting UK venues would also be selling a quantity of advance tickets.
Vue, Cineworld and Odeon teased fans with tantalising promises of tickets, which are expected to go on sale from 8am today (Monday October 19).
Odeon cinemas tweeted on Sunday: "'Ready are you? What know you of ready?' #StarWarsTheForceAwakens tickets are on sale TOMORROW morning!".
Irish cinema chain IMC cinemas wrote: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away .. actually who are we kidding .. STAR WARS tickets on sale at 8am tomorrow!"
The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the franchise, is one of the most anticipated films of the year, with flurries of excitement accompanying each trailer launch. The second teaser trailer, which debuted in April, has more than 64 million views on YouTube to date.
Twitter users were begging for more information on Sunday night. Many were unclear as to what hour the tickets would be available and fretted that their commuter routines might hinder their chances.
Oshie Bichar tweeted on Sunday: "So hyped for the new Star Wars trailer and to buy tickets tomorrow."
Carter Friend said: "Nervous for the mad dash of everyone trying to buy Star Wars tickets tomorrow. Maybe we should all just battle it out Hunger Games-style."
Pamela McClintock tweeted: "Wonder how fast theaters will sell out when #StarWarsTheForceAwakens tix go on sale tomorrow."
The Star Wars website also revealed the official poster for the movie which shows "an awakening of the dark side... and the light".
