A parody trailer for Jaws 19, the film seen in Back to the Future II, has been released
Remember the scene in Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future II, released in 1989, when Marty McFly travels in his DeLorean to 2015? In the background, a cinema is advertising Jaws 19. It is an amusing detail; a sly dig at the increasing absursity of the (never-ending) Jaws sequels. But it could never really happen... could it?
Well – and this is heavy – with Back to the Future Day fast approaching (October 21 2015 is where Marty McFly travelled forward to in Back to the Future II), Universal has created an actual trailer for Jaws 19. And it's surprisingly high on laughs, if disappointingly low on sharks.
The trailer runs through every instalment from the original onwards and includes Robo Jaws ("made you afraid of robotic sharks") and Jaws 18: Origins ("the mind-blowing reboot"). But our favourite instalment? Jaws 17: Fifty Scales of Grey ("it learned about love from a mysterious stranger").
This is just the latest in a line of stunts, including the release of hoverboards and Power Laces, designed to promote Back to the Future Day.
It was announced yesterday that Pepsi are even bringing out a limited edition Pepsi Perfect bottle – like the one Marty McFly buys from a diner in Back to the Future II – to coincide with the October 21 date.
"We wanted to take advantage of the fact that Marty travelled to the future, to this month, and wanted to actually come out with the product," explained PepsiCo's senior director of marketing.
